FAQs

What if I’m camera shy?

You’re not alone. Most people feel the same way and I am no exception. I purposely keep my approach relaxed, fun and candid to make you feel at ease. If you’re really nervous before your wedding, an engagement shoot (aka pre-wedding shoot) is a great chance to get used to the camera.

What areas do you cover and do you charge travel expenses?

I am based in Aberdeen but I’m up for travelling pretty much anywhere! Weddings outside of Aberdeen/shire may be subject to additional charges to cover travel and accommodation. I am also happy to cover locations outside of Scotland, subject to additional charges. Please contact me for a quote. Any additional travel costs will be confirmed at the time of booking.

Do you charge a deposit for making a booking?

To secure your booking for our services and save the date, I ask for a 25% non-refundable deposit (stated in my Terms & Conditions) for all of my wedding film and photo services. The deposit is paid when the contract is signed, with the remaining balance to be paid 4 weeks prior to your big day.

Do I need a second shooter?

It depends! I’m always happy to shoot a wedding solo, it’s normally how I work. If you’re having a bigger wedding or would like the groom preparations covered, I’ll usually recommend booking a second shooter as it will not only provide you with more photos but also a different perspective. I will work closely with the second shooter to document both yours and your partner’s preparations in the morning. During the marriage ceremony, we can cover two angles/viewpoints simultaneously without needing to walk around as much. During the reception, one of us can cover the guests, capturing candid moments, whilst the other shooter will capture those stunning bride and groom photos.

We already booked a photographer, can we hire you for video?

Absolutely! I can cover your wedding photography, video, or both, and I’m always happy to work alongside another photographer.

Do you offer custom packages?

If you have specific needs for your wedding that may not be covered by my standard packages, I’m always happy to consult and put together a bespoke package to fit your requirements. If you have any questions about any packages, you can contact me to book a commitment-free consultation.

How many photos will i get and how long will I wait?

The number of final images can vary depending on the package you choose and whether a second photographer is added. As well as that, every wedding is different, and I always aim to capture images that are unique to your special day. Having said that, I average 200 - 300 images for half day and 500 - 700 images for full day coverage, or about 50 images an hour.

Once I get home, the first thing I do is prepare a selection of preview images that you will receive the next day. This is a small gallery of two or three dozen of the best photos to give you a preview of what the full gallery will look like, and they’re perfect for sharing on social media. Your full wedding gallery will be ready within 4 to 6 weeks following the wedding.

How long will the film be and how long does the film take to complete?

As with photos, it is difficult to give an exact runtime as every wedding I cover is so unique, but my full length wedding films exceed 30 minutes (including your ceremony and speeches as well as all the other highlights) while a half day video will be turned into an approximately 10 minute film.

My standard method of producing wedding films lies somewhere between montage and documentary. I try to show your ceremony and speeches in full, but I like to make interesting edits that show your wedding in its best light and keep it interesting, avoiding any moments of “dead air”. For example, I will often let the audio from your ceremony play out while cutting away to other shots from the day, and I use music to transition between scenes.

All films are different and take different amounts of time to produce. I avoid rushing my edits; since you will have them to enjoy for the rest of your lives, I believe it is worth the wait, and I will only deliver a wedding video if I am 100% happy with it. This takes around 8-12 weeks from your wedding date.

How will I receive the photos/videos?

Your video and full set of images will be emailed to you through a private link via WeTransfer. This means you can view and share with your close family and friends without worrying about uploading them all. You’ll also receive a Vimeo link to your film.

A USB contained all your edited wedding pictures and/or films can also be purchased for an extra fee.

how do you record sound?

I use small, discreet lavalier clip-on microphones which I clip on the groom and celebrant during the ceremony to pick up clear audio of the vows.

Can I pick my own wedding music?

Yes, you are free to choose any music you’d like for your wedding film. I do also provide licensed copyright-free music as part of the video package since copyrighted music can pose some issues when uploading your film online but the choice is entirely yours. For a full-day wedding film, I ask for about 6 songs of your choice. We can’t promise that they’ll all make it into the film but it will give me plenty of options in the edit.

Can we ask for changes to the film?

Once I’ve sent you the link to your film, please let me know if there are any amendments you’d like me to make, such as removing a few shots or adding some in. The first re-edit is free, and any subsequent changes will incur additional charges, with the amount depending on the scale of the re-edit.

can we cancel at any time?

Cancellations must be made in writing up to 8 weeks prior to your wedding date. Within 8 weeks of your date, the full payment will be due. Please note that the deposit is non-refundable. During Covid, I will always try my best to offer refunds and reschedule with you, but unfortunately this is not always possible. It is recommended that you take out wedding insurance to cover any loss you could incur for cancelling or postponing your wedding due to unforeseen circumstances. Please note also that getting divorced is not grounds for a refund!

Are you insured?

Yes, I’m insured with Aaduki Multimedia Insurance for up to £2 million public liability insurance, so you can have peace of mind with me at your wedding.

Do you require food on the day?

Yes, please! As I am with you for the majority of the day and am unable to leave the premises, I do ask that you provide both me and the second shooter (if applicable) with a meal. Usually if you ask your venue/catering staff about vendor meals, they will provide you with some options or we will happily order something off a bar menu if this is more convenient.

Do you offer wedding albums?

Yes, beautiful linen ones, the kind that makes people ooh and aah! You can commission a photo album after receiving your full gallery.
